Language Packs

The standard Enigmail package contains many languages and can be used with no further requirements in localised versions of Thunderbird and Seamonkey.

If your mail client is localised in a language that is not included in Enigmail, then you must install a language pack for Enigmail directly after you installed Enigmail. Please note that the language packs below only work for the specified Enigmail version.

If no package is available for the language and version you need, please consider to contribute by translating Enigmail yourself! In this case, please follow the instructions provided below.

Installation

To install a Language Pack for Enigmail, you must first install Enigmail. Then, before restarting the application, load this page and click on one of the links below to initiate the download. Install it just like the Enigmail package itself. After you installed both Enigmail and the language pack, you must restart the application.

If Enigmail still appears in English after the restart, you need to switch once to the default language 'English (US)' and back to your localisation. Mind that each such language change must be followed an application restart! The easiest way to switch the language in Thunderbird is to install the Quick Locale Switcher extension. In Seamonkey use Edit > Preferences > Appearance > Languages/Content.

Updated locales for Enigmail 1.2.x

Langpacks are included in the Enigmail Package itself, so usually there is no need to download and install them separately from this page. The packages listed here will be included in the next release.

So far no language packs are available since the last release of Enigmail.

The following language packs were released or updated after the last version of Enigmail:

How to Translate Enigmail to a new language

The easiest way to translate Enigmail is via Babelzilla. This is an online translation platform, where Enigmail is hosted. To translate Enigmail:

  1. Create an account at Babelzilla, and log into your account
  2. From the menu WTS select List all extensions
  3. Switch to the tab All extensions and search for Enigmail
  4. Click on the extension name (e.g. Enigmail 1.2)
  5. Register yourself for a translation. You can either register for an existing translation that doesn't have a translator, or register for a new translation.
  6. Click on the translation name and start translating the files. The most important files to translate are enigmail.dtd and enigmail.properties.
  7. Once you'll have completed your translation, set the status to "released". We will be notified and create a language pack from it.

Don't hesitate to contact us either via the mailing list or by sending us a message with Babelzilla if anything is unclear.
